Rowy for the weekend - a plan for two days on the Baltic Sea

Two days in Rowy: beach and harbor on the first day, shifting dunes and lakes on the second. A ready-made plan for a short seaside getaway.

Rowy is perfect for a short, two-day trip to the Baltic Sea. The village is small enough to walk around, yet it's situated on the edge of Słowiński National Park, so there's enough to do for a whole weekend. Here's a sample itinerary.

Day one: the village, the port and the beach

It's worth spending the first day exploring the village itself. Start at the fishing port at the mouth of the Łupawa River—this is Rowy's most characteristic spot, where fishing boats dock and you can buy fresh fish. Then, stroll through the main part of the village and visit the neo-Romanesque church from 1844–1849, built from boulders from Kamienna Wyspa on Lake Gardno.

Set aside an afternoon for the beach. The wide, sandy shore with two lifeguarded swimming areas (Rowy Zachód and Rowy Wschód) is the perfect place to relax. End the day with a stroll along the seashore at sunset—in Rowy, the sun sets directly over the water.

Day two: Słowiński National Park

Spend the second day exploring nature. Your main destination is the shifting sand dunes in Słowiński National Park—the largest such area in Europe. Climbing the Łącka Dune (about 40 meters) rewards you with views of the Baltic Sea and Lake Łebsko. Remember that during peak season, admission to selected trails in the park is subject to a ticket.

If you have time, drive to the Smołdzino area and climb the observation tower on Rowokół Mountain (about 115 meters above sea level), from where you can see Lakes Gardno and Łebsko, as well as the dunes. Alternatively, visit the open-air museum—the Museum of the Slovinian Village in Kluki—or take a walk along Lake Gardno.

Practical tips

The easiest way to reach Rowy is by car. Ustka is about 15 km away, Łeba about 35 km, and the nearest major train station is in Słupsk (about 40 km), from where buses run during the season. For a weekend getaway, just pack a swimsuit, comfortable shoes for the dunes, and something warm for the evenings—evenings by the sea can be cool, even in summer.

Rowy is a great option for those who value peace, nature and an authentic fishing atmosphere for a short getaway instead of crowded promenades.
