What to see in Rowy - a guide to the seaside fishing village
A fishing port, a wide beach, a neo-Romanesque church, and the edge of Słowiński National Park. A subjective guide to the most important places in Rowy and the surrounding area.
Rowy is a small seaside fishing village in the Ustka commune, Słupsk County, situated between the Baltic Sea and Lake Gardno, at the mouth of the Łupawa River. Although only a few hundred people live there permanently, the village bustles with life during the season, and its greatest asset is its location on the very edge of Słowiński National Park . Here are some places worth seeing during your stay.
Fishing port at the mouth of the Łupawa River
The heart of Rowy is the fishing port, located where the Łupawa River flows into the Baltic Sea. It's a small, still-functioning port used by local fishermen. Here, you can watch the fishing boats return from their catch and buy fresh fish straight from the boat. The morning and evening departures are one of the most authentic views of the entire village.
Beach
The beach in Rowy is wide and clean. During the summer, there are two supervised swimming areas—Rowy Zachód (approximately 400 m long) and Rowy Wschód (approximately 200 m)—supervised by WOPR lifeguards. The gentle slope into the water and sandy bottom make this a popular choice for families with children.
Neo-Romanesque church
It's worth visiting the local church of Saints Peter and Paul, built between 1844 and 1849 in the Neo-Romanesque style. Built from erratic boulders brought from Kamienna Wyspa on Lake Gardno, it's one of the village's most interesting monuments.
Słowiński National Park just outside the village
East of Rowy begins the Słowiński National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It boasts Europe's largest expanse of shifting sand dunes, which are shifted by the wind by several meters annually. The tallest of these, the Łącka Dune , rises to approximately 40 meters and offers expansive views of the sea and Lake Łebsko.
Area: Gardno, Rowokół, Czołpino, Kluki
Within a short trip, you'll find Lake Gardno (approximately 2,469 hectares) with a bird sanctuary, Kamienna Wyspa (Stone Island). Deep in the park, near Smołdzino, you can climb Rowokół Mountain (approximately 115 meters above sea level) with its observation tower, and in the Smołdziński Forest, you can see the Czołpino lighthouse, perched on a high dune. History buffs should visit the open-air museum—the Museum of the Slovincian Village in Kluki, where the old architecture and memory of the Slovincians have been preserved.
Rowy is the perfect base for a few days: a morning stroll on the beach, afternoon fishing in the harbor, and an afternoon trip to the dunes or lake. It's a place for those seeking a seaside getaway, close to nature, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
